So many of my shoulder pain patients ask me “Can I overhead press again?” or “Can I snatch again?”

To be completely honest, I have no idea if you can lift weight over your head again.

It’s a high level movement that requires a lot of moving parts.

But, what we do know is that specialists like us at Impulse Chiropractic and Rehab can give you the best possible shot to overhead press a barbell or a dumbbell successfully.

And what that involves is making sure that we put the right progressions in place.

When we say progressions, we mean giving you the right mobility and stability exercises in place FOR YOU specifically.

What do we need to check….

For example, if you have a problem getting your arm in an overhead position, we need to make sure first we can safely get your arm overhead. We need this mobility before we add weight. Before we add loading. Before we add a lot of reps to it. Before you get fatigued.

If you can get your arm overhead, but you don’t have the stability or strength to stay there, then we have to give you the specific exercises necessary that are going to allow you to safely get a loaded barbell, overhead, be able to sustain it.

And then when you get fatigued, do multiple reps, or when you’re in a competition, you don’t injure yourself just because you don’t have the stability in your shoulder to hold it overhead.
