The other day I had a patient tell me she used to take Tylenol repeatedly just to “get through the day”.
The dependency got so bad, she would go through a bottle of it every few weeks.
Now, she wasn’t just taking it because her pain was extreme. She feared the pain would show up and stop her from being the active mother she wanted to be.
So she was also trying to prevent it too.
Unfortunately, that’s the reality a lot of active adults live in. A dependency on pain meds to either relieve the pain or prevent it from happening.
Luckily after working through her plan of care, we were able to get her off Tylenol and give her the confidence she needed to know the pain wouldn’t return.
But as a clinician, this weighs heavily on me. Helping people get rid of dependencies on pain relievers and finding a more natural and lasting solution to pain is one of my biggest drivers.
Not because they’re bad, but because they’re not a solution. (Not to mention, a heavy consumption of them can cause deeper internal health issues.)
Now you may be thinking, “I take Tylenol pretty regularly.”
And I’m not here to shame you for it. I understand it helps take the pain away. Life’s really hard as it is, and chronic pain makes it a lot harder.
But what if you didn’t have to depend on pain relievers anymore?
What if you put them down for good?
Not just because you wanted to abstain from them, but because you didn’t need them anymore.
Would that make things easier for you?
